![]() Good luck with the installation.īecause of the wide-band capabilities of the PRO-2006, there is really no perfect on-antenna solution. That's just my input, maybe others will chime in. Maybe a mag mounted antenna on an air conditioner might be your best bet, not up on the roof. I'd sure hate to go to the trouble of putting up a $200 antenna system only to have it fried by lightning in the first week. With lightning rods, it sounds like that's in a lightning prone area, so I wouldn't be mounting stuff on the roof, that's my preference. You should look at what's available for mounting antennas, like a vent pipe for your support mast. I have used others, but this is the one I prefer right now.Ī bunch of experimenting works for me, try them all, but money can be the barrier to that. ![]() I have other antenna configurations I can switch to using that mount for different reasons, but the Larsen stays on most of the time. You could get away with RG8U but if you are in a rural area, a higher quality coax works better, like LMR400.īasically, I have for mobile use a Larsen NMO-150/450/800 mag mount and it suits me fine. If you are interested in the full spectrum of frequencies your 2006 has, then a decent discone antenna will work, fed with a good quality feedline, such as LMR400. ![]() There really is no miracle antenna out there. There are many antennas that people swear by and others that people don't like, because they might have had a lemon and it didn't work for them the way they wanted it to. Selecting an antenna takes some time and research and also asking some of the locals what they use, not asking what the best is, because you'll get different responses. I also use it on the 2m and 70cm bands with my FT60R walkie. I have my dual band Larsen mag mount on an air conditioner. Just ordered it.As I have mentioned many times before, ask a hundred people what the best antenna is and you'll get a hundred different answers. A truly singular and terrible experience in the annals of humankind.Ĭhrist, I was going to hold off on buying this until it was cheaper but all this talkin' has got me worked up. I've been mildly obsessed with the Titanic since I was a kid-and there's so many elements of it that are horrifying and fascinating-but what has always struck me the most is what it must have been like being in those boats while the ship went down. Those were some composed individuals, but I suppose times were different then. It's hard to discount the similarities and the specific details from those who reported seeing the ship break apart. It's still remarkable to read the eyewitness accounts from some of the folks who very much seem to have witnessed the entire event and somehow kept it together. It's hard to know just how dark it would have been (I'm pretty sure the moon was not out that night, so it would have been quite dark indeed) but it was almost certainly dead silent due to the freezing temperatures, the lack of wind, and the unusually calm seas, which must have made things even more terrifying for those in the lifeboats who were able to hear every last sound coming from the ship and passengers as it sunk.
